We have had 100+ phone calls in the past week regarding phone calls that taxpayers have reportedly received from the “IRS” or their “state government”. Tax Scams Phone Calls from Strange Number all over the US.
These are 100% a scam. The IRS will not call you, either will your state government. All correspondences from either of these agencies will come from US postal service. Also these correspondences will not request you send them a check, money order, wire transfer, or cash.
If you have received any of these types of phones calls, disregarding them, It is a scam.
Feel free to contact your state finance department or the IRS using numbers provided from an official resource such as their homepage.
Please get this word out to your friends and family. We have had many phone calls from the elderly regarding this, so they are praying on 65+.
Also watch your email as well. The IRS is currently warning taxpayers of recent email schemes for identity theft.
The emails are designed to trick taxpayers into thinking these are official communications from the IRS or others in the tax industry, including tax software companies. The phishing schemes can ask taxpayers about a wide range of topics. E-mails can seek information related to refunds, filing status, confirming personal information, ordering transcripts and verifying PIN information.
